For several years now, die-hard fans of Korean actors, actresses and pop stars have been traveling to Seoul to attend fan meetings and concerts. Hallyu or Korean wave has helped boost Korean tourism, thanks to the popularity of Korean dramas, movies and music around Asia.
Now Taiwan is using the same tactic, hoping the charm and popularity of boy band F4 will entice Korean tourists to visit the island
F4 members Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu and Vic Chou, who gained popularity among Korean fans with its drama ``Meteor Garden” visited Seoul for the first time on Friday. F4 was appointed by Taiwan Tourism Bureau chief Lai Se Zhen as its ambassadors to promote Taiwan tourism to the rest of Asia.
Taiwan is hoping to increase the number of Korean tourists going to Taiwan, which is estimated at 200,000 annually, while there are some 400,000 Taiwanese tourists going to Korea annually.
To kick off the ``Wish to See You in Taiwan” tourism campaign, F4 announced it is holding a fan meeting in Taipei on April 22. During the press conference, Yan said it has been a long time since F4 reunited as a group, so they are preparing some surprises for their fans during the event.
As part of being tourism ambassadors, Chu said F4 will film a commercial for the Tourism Bureau and start working on a TV drama, which will be shot in tourist spots throughout the country. The drama will be aired in Korea and Japan later this year.
F4 members talked about their favorite places, including food and tourist attractions in Taiwan, which they hoped would be enjoyed by Korean tourists. Wu said Korean tourists should sample the island’s delicious mangoes, while Chu recommended the hotpot shabu-shabu.
Yan said tourists should visit Kaohsiung, a major port city, where he served for 2 years during military service. He added he couldn’t forget the place since it is where his girlfriend broke up with him.
F4 is also currently in negotiations with Korean organizers to hold their first concert in Seoul. Wu said they are eager to meet Korean fans, especially after seeing so many enthusiastic fans welcoming them at the airport.
F4 members also expressed their desire to work with Korean actors and actresses in the future. Wu, who formed a duo with Korean singer Kangta last year, said he would like to do an action movie with Kwon Sang-woo or Ryu Seung-beum, while Yan said he is a fan of the film ``Old Boy” and its star Choi Min-shik. Chou said he would like to work again with Park Eun-hye, who co-starred with him in the drama ``Silence” and So Ji-sop.
Yan, Wu, Chu and Chou gained popularity throughout Asia after starring in the TV drama ``Boys are Prettier than Flowers” and its sequel. F4 has released two albums ``Meteor Rain” and ``Fantasy Forever” and has staged sold-out concerts.
However, in recent years, F4 members have concentrated on solo work such as dramas, movies and albums. F4 members have visited Seoul on separate occasions but never as a group. In November 2004, Chou, Chu and Wu attended the Asia Song Festival, while Yan attended the M-net Music TV festival in December 2004.

New TV series will showcase nation's scenic locations

The Tourism Bureau announced last year that it would sponsor the production of a romantic TV series called Wish to See You in Taiwan, starring the popular boy band F4 -- on the condition that the series showcase some of the nation's scenic locations for its setting.
The TV series, scheduled to be completed by November, will be broadcast during prime time in Japan and South Korea.
While the bureau has not finalized its list of recommended sites, the scouting for potential locales has already generated discussions in cyberspace.
Some ideas
Yvonne Lee, an engineer, said in an instant message exchange that there were a couple of places she would recommend, including Alishan and Kuanshan.
"The latter may be less known to the public, but it is a place where you can watch a beautiful sunrise and is one of the few less-polluted areas in Taiwan," she wrote.
Hannah Tsai, an office clerk, suggested a few possible combinations for scenic spots. She said that crews could shoot outdoor scenes in the narrow valley spanning Hualien and Taitung.
Should the filming crew be interested in scenes from central Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake, Cingjing Veterans' Farm to Ouwanta Forest Recreation Areas all would be viable options.
The Cingjing Farm is known for its widespread grassland and scenery similar to that found in Switzerland, while Ouwanta is home of the Atayal Tribe and known for its maple tree forest.
Tsai said another option would be the coastal areas in the northeast.
Also, given the right timing, the crew could shoot in Sanjhih, Taipei County, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, she wrote.
Tsai said she also heard that the Bakuen Farm, located in a 1.3km-high mountain in Hsinchu County, was a nice location, adding that it was perfect for those who enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by clouds.
Other options
Doris Huang, a writer, said she would recommend Furen Village (???) on the Nankan Islet in Matsu.
She said its coastal areas resemble those along the Mediterranean Sea.
Jenny Yeh, also a writer, said that the area surrounding Tamkang University could also provide a good setting for a romantic series.
The Tamshui Fishermen's Wharf, Fort San Domingo and other tourist attractions are found in the area.
A man who only gave the name Tommy said that a romantic series needed a setting of such beauty as that found at Liushidanshan, Hualien County, famous, in summertime, for its hills filled with tiger lilies.
The tourism bureau is still encouraging people to submit their ideas for settings to be used during the shooting of the series.

2007.03.11 As the Spokesmen for the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan, F3 returns yesterday afternoon ending a 5-day Japan and Korean Promotional trip.
With astounding responses from Japan and Korea, F4 even had the media momentarily reduced to ‘frantic fans’. During an exclusive interview, a Korean female host was ecstatic. She greeted F4 with such a ‘high decibel’ enthusiasm that she shocked F4 and grabbed Vanness Wu asking, ‘Remember me?’ F4 agrees in unison that Japanese fans are more demure and tails them throughout whilst the Koreans fans are more passionate and screams of ‘F4’ abound everywhere they went. A crowd of fans sent them off at the Airport but had a row with security as they attempted to cross the security boundaries.
In promoting Taiwan’s Tourism, F4 did 8 and 10 exclusive interviews in Japan and Korea respectively. As the schedule was very hectic, all the questions were very similar. The most asked of F4 was, ‘Where is the most enjoyable place in Taiwan?’ They effectively replied to the questions by taking turns to answer saving time and energy. It was already 9 pm when all came to an end. Ken Chu and Zai Zai went for the Celebratory Gathering, Vanness left the group to look up friends whilst Jerry Yen was too tired and returned to the hotel.
Everyone felt that Zai Zai appears thinner with his short hair. He frankly admitted that he did lose some weight due to the death of Xu Wei Lun and the media’s unfair handling. As to whether his hair cut off as a sign of mourning? He responded, ‘I had wanted to cut it off some time back as long hair is very troublesome. But I was shooting ‘Mei Wei Guan Xi’ so I couldn’t and that is why I immediately cut it off when filming wrapped.
Vanness Wu flew to Africa via Hong Kong when work concluded in Korea yesterday. He will be volunteering with Charlie Yeung for the Children’s Foundation. As F3 approached the gates, Jerry Yen was wearing his baseball cap with the hood of his sweater pulled over, he joked that it is his ‘new image’. Divulging through his agent, Billy, he cleared up Japanese media’s reports of his aloofness during the press conference. In truth, he did not smile as he was not able to because of the tremendous pressure.

According to a newsarticle of 3/10, F4's duties in Korea are completed & they are all leaving Korea today. I remember Jerry saying in his blog that due to changes in the Korean schedule, he had to cxld his Shanghai charity event. Seems that the Korean schedule is changed again, wondered whether its possible for Jerry to go to Shanghai on such short notice.
Anyway, in United Daily News (3/10), its confirmed that Billy is one of Jerry's agent & he is also the agent of Lan Zheng Long, Vic Zhou's gf ex bf. Its said that Jerry & LZL are similar in the aspect that both are reserved & inarticulate, thereby giving others the impression of distance. And some part abt how under Billy's patient guidance over these couple of years, LZL pr skills has improved a lot.

The Hospital TV Soundtrack/Various Artistes

The best thing about the soundtrack to this controversial Taiwanese idol drama starring F4's Jerry Yen (and now showing on Channel U on Saturdays and Sundays at 7.30pm) is that Yen does not sing on it. Or rather, to be more precise, the opening theme song sung by him is not included in the soundtrack album.
The next best thing is that helming it is veteran composer-producer-arranger (and sometime TV host) Kay Huang. As Huang's influences are more of the breezy pop and jazz-lite ilk, you can pretty much figure out the feel of the soundtrack as a whole.
Even Power Station's pop rock offerings (the opening ballad Never Say Goodbye and the anthemic I Promise You) seem to blend in seamlessly with such chilled Mando-pop momentos as: the ending theme song We Were Once Too Young by Lan You Shi; Please Leave Me For A While by Singaporean lass Kaira Gong; and two delightful laid-back contributions from A-Sang (Driving and the evergreen chestnut Tell Me You Love Me as re-arranged by Huang).
The only complaint is that a couple of the 14 incidental music pieces by Huang sound too much like filler tracks to leave any lingering impression.
Feelings out of control? Give me a break. From the press conference clips I have watched, Jerry's attitude was very appropriate. Yes, he didn't act like a clown or laugh until his body shook, so it is not ok? He was quiet and looked serious when others were talking because he respected the press conference and others. He didn't talk much as he didn't want to steal the attention. I think his attitude was so good even after some reporters asked him whether he was the main reason why the Tourism idol project/drama was delayed/impacted in the press conference. In one news article, it was reported that Jerry asked Ms. Ge why all the blames were on him. I don't know whether he did ask that question, but it was so true.
For your information, not too many translation was done as most news articles from TW/HK were not worthy translating, as they followed the same tone, that it accused Jerry of having a straight face. Is it really a coincidence that the HK paper 'Singtao' which is well known to be pro-ZZ released a news article on the day they went to Japan accusing Jerry of refusing to release the 2006 HK concerts DVD and the 3rd F4 album, and joining F3 again now for the money.

According to newsarticle, seems that besides Fenny & Guo Zhong accompanying Jerry, a guy named Billy was also there & its written he's Jerry's manager (Jiang Yi Peng is SJ consultant). So maybe Jerry has manage to get someone to manage his TW side of business.
What can I say except they know Jerry well. They know that Jerry will just swallow the unfairness and harassment, as he treasures his relationship with them and he doesn't want the press to report a twisted and out-of-proportion story.
Kimura Takuya has long admired Jerry Yan but in Jerry Yan's heart (meaning mind), the very attractive Kimura should be the true heartthrob for girls. F4 is too popular and even Kimura Takuya wants to join and make it F5! Last night, F4 were invited to SMAPxSMAP hosted by SMAP as guest. Taiwan and Japan Kings meeting, Jerry Yan and Kimura Takuya both praised each other and Kimura Takuya even designed the content to welcome the super guests F4.
SMAPxSMAP is the Fuji top variety show and the ratings always have been high and not low. Most overseas artists usually join the Bistro SMAP section but F4 has a different treatment. Kimura Takuya not only appear as "F5" but personally designed a Meteor Garden skit, game and interview contents. The whole show was recorded from 4 pm to 11 pm. But leader Nakai Masahiro and Goro Inagaki were absent due to other work schedule.
The agency revealed that Kimura Takuya enjoy F4 a lot and had wanted to work with them earlier on. Jerry Yan also hoped to see Kimura Takuya. Jerry Yan praised "Kimura Takuya's real person is better looking than on TV and truly is the ladies heartthrob." Kimura looked ecstactic. In the short skit of Meteor Garden, Kimura Takuya together with Jerry Yan played the role of Dao Ming Sze and Shingo who wore a checked skirt had to choose one of the two.....(spoiler not translated). Not minding his own star image, Jerry Yan said, "No problem, I wanted to make fun anyway!"

Apparently, Goro and Nakai were not present due to other work but the four boys were in casual wear and Kimura said he had always enjoyed F4 and wanted to cooperate with them. He designed a skit with Jerry Yan and both Kimura and Jerry pretended to be Dao Ming Sze, the character Jerry played in Meteor Garden proposing to Shingo who played Barbie Hsu's role.
Jerry said that he admired Kimura for a long time and Kimura looks even more handsome than onscreen and no wonder so many girls fall in love with Kimura. Kimura was quite ecstatic on hearing that.
Because it is Johnny Entertainment's policy not to have the press during shooting, the Taiwan reporters were not allowed in the building while filming and so the Taiwan audience did not get a preview of the filming. The filming started from 4 pm and ended at 11 pm. Jerry at 181cm is taller than Kimura but Kimura came prepared with high heels and a hat. laugh.gif laugh.gif Jerry did not mind his star image when doing a funny skit and he said, "I came prepared to make fun."

Sad face Jerry Yan and funny man Vic Zhou are really different! For F4's endorsement of Taiwan tourism bureau, they held a press conference yesterday in Tokyo. and a clear contrast was seen between the two. Even during the interview at the stage, Jerry's feelings were out of the control, and Zaizai had to take the attention to help him. Jarry had always thought of his own country as an ambassador, He is pressured, in contrast to Zaizai's relaxed and funny gesture as he began to speak in Japanese . He didnt only teased continuously at the reporters but also took Vanness and Ken laughing. Finally Jerry even laughed at his jokes.
At yesterday's press con at Park Hyatt Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, there are almost 200 Japanese press. NHK TV had a full coverage. The 11:00 starting time was delayed for an hour. According to age, F4 came out at the stage with Zaizai leading, followed by Ken, Vanness and finally Jerry. Vanness was limping and they all wore suits of dark gray and black designed by HIRO, Dolice and Gabbana and Dior Homme. Just the suits alone had cost them 2 million dollars.
Zaizai kept high with his antics and Jerry were pressed with questions on LZL and QSK. Jerry just said," Bless her."
As ambassadors for Tourism, Jerry most recommended the National Palace Museum and its Tea Restaurants. Taiwan tea is tasty and delicious. Besides wax apple, Vanness recommended Ba Le, tomato preserves and mango ice. Ken recommended some food delicacies which is very ordinary to people and yet from north to south has distinct different tastes. Vic recommended the beautiful mountains and rivers of Yi Lan. Taiwan 101 tower and Wan Yue bay.
Because of the rumors that the the Tourism Bureau wanted F4 for the idol drama project but is continuously "blocked" by Jerry, he was directly asked by the Taiwanese media in yesterday's conference. Maybe because he was offended, he just frowned.
Zaizai took the shot and said," We three already filled it up for him" Vanness was also a little angry when he said," The four of us really get along very well, no need to put an issue on it."
