Jerry Yan replaces Vic Chou, shoots commercial with Cyndi Wang

The secretive nature of the shoot ignited a brawl between the crew and reporters

Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan looks set to take on showbiz again.

Yesterday, a netizen reportedly saw Jerry Yan and Cyndi Wang at a little park in Taipei. The two celebrities were dressed in spring attires.

Conflict ensued when reporters went up to the crew for interviews. The crew reportedly hit the reporters and took away their cameras, attempting to erase their memory cards.

Cyndi expressed on her Weibo yesterday that she "was not going to be Cha Meile (her character in a new drama) today. I have to wear spring clothes for Master Kong Honey Jasmine Tea today. I hope the weather would be fine and warm."

Jerry's manager however said that they "would not reveal any details at the moment", declining to comment on the content of Jerry's work.

According to reports, Vic Chou was initially the spokesperson for this beverage brand. He was signed on for four years, with an annual payout of NT$11 million (approximately S$480,000). The actor was first partnered with Ariel Lin, before pairing up with Cyndi.

Fans were surprised when the latest ads were replaced by Jerry. Vic's manager replied that the actor, who turned 30 this year, did not want to do any idol-like commercials anymore.

This commercial marks Jerry's comeback, after his six-month rest due to gastritis. He was estimated to have earned NT$30 million (approximately S$1.3 million) for the endorsement. Jerry also appeared on Hunan TV's Happy Camp recently.

Yan Cheng Xu Will Film Commercial
F4 Won't Have Time To Unite For New Year Eve

Due to some health issues, Yan Cheng Xu has rejected quite a number of invitations and offers this year, but up to the end of this year, he is still The Best Money Sucking Object. According to source, he is going to film new commercial with close to NT 30 millions of talent fee. Including the NT30 millions from his photobook, his yearly income will be over NT 70 millions. He is a top actor with low quantity work but high talent fees.

This year, Yan Cheng Xu has taken a break. The drama and endorsement invitations and offeres he has rejected so far has been over NT 100 millions of value. Due to his nature of not hungry for money, he is determined to take good care of his health first. According to source, he has decided to start working again in the near future. He will film a commercial by the end of the year. Regarding the new commercial, his agency has kept it a good secret, as she wants to wait for his best condition before announcing the good news.

This year is F4's 10th anniversary. Mainland China wants to unite F4 together, but due to scheduling problem, it was unsuccessful. CCTV did send out the invitation for the 2nd time and hoped that they could attend the New Year Eve Concert which will be held in ShenZhen and recorded on the 21st, but it did not go through due to scheduling problem.

This year, CCTV's New Year Eve Concert will be pre-recorded. The Red Carpet will be held on the 20th, with press conference and rehearsal afterwards. The recording will take place the next day. In order to unite F4 together, CCTV indicated that there is no need for F4 to attend the rehearsal in person. Unfortunately, it still did not go through, as ZZ's agency thought that the New Year Eve Concert would be held on the 31st, and his agency asked for the wrong day off, and now it's too late to change it.

Last hope of F4 2010 reunion is dashed

Written by: Zahra on 12/04/2010 @ CpopAccess.com

After The Little Tiger's reunion on CCTV's annual Spring Festival Celebration program for their twentieth year, there were rumors and speculation that perhaps F4 would also reunite on the show for their tenth anniversary. While that plan to bring together Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Van Ness Wu, and Ken Chu didn't fall into place, CCTV gave it one more shot by mailing out formal invitations in hopes that the four would attend the New Year's Eve celebration in Shenzhen on the 21st this year. Alas, Vic thought that the New Year's Eve celebration would actually, you know, be on New Year's Eve (the 31st), and so he had already made vacation plans for the 21st.

Unlike in Taiwan, Mainland's CCTV holds their New Year's Eve party earlier. On the night of the 20th, they hold the red carpet event, a press conference, and the dress rehearsal. Then on the 21st, they officially film the show. Had the reunion of F4 been successful, they would have been Taiwan's sole representatives.

The "mother of F4", Angie Chai, has deemed it "Mission Impossible" to bring the four together due to their different management companies. And since Vic will be doing promotions in Tokyo for "Black and White" near the Spring Festival date next year, chances are slim that the four will be able to reunite for the occasion. However, it can't be completely written off yet. Perhaps Hunan TV, who has offered to provide them with planes for transfers for Hunan TV's Spring Festival show, will be able to finally bring them back together again. Even Jerry's manager has stated that the four have a consensus on reuniting, but it will all depend on their schedules.

In the meantime, we can look forward to other big names coming to the CCTV New Year's Eve party, such as the Four Heavenly Kings consisting of Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai, and Aaron Kwok.

Dec. 3 Apply Daily - Vivian Hsu Gets Surprise Visit from Jerry Yan

At the 23rd Tokyo International Movie Festival, Vivian Hsu cried because she could not step on the green carpet at the premiere of [Juliets] due to the incident involving Chi...na. However she had her moment at the premiere in Taiwan yesterday. Not only famous Hollywood director Ang Lee came to support her, her close friend Jerry Yan also paid her a surprise visit on stage with flowers. She was so surprised to see him and embraced him happily.

She commented later that she was so surprised to see Jerry and had to fight back the happy tears. She wrote the lyrics for Jerry’s song “Want to Love You” in his movie [Magic Kitchen] (2004). The two became close friends. Jerry flew back from Beijing to support her at the premiere. He appeared at backstage quietly. Vivian screamed with happiness when she saw him. When asked about his health, Jerry replied “I’m much better now. I’ve lost some weight. I have started working.” Jerry stayed briefly for 10 minutes and left right after presenting the flowers to Vivian on stage.

credits to kkla@nbbbs.com

It's almost the end of the year, as usual, TW Apple Daily estimated which artiste has earned the most this year. In the clip, the narrator said, "Different from the last 3 year that he was the champion, due to his health problem, he has rejected numerous drama offers, so for the first time, Yan Cheng Xu is not on the chart." According to TW Apple Daily's estimation, Jerry has only earned around NT30 millions for his photobook and other souvenirs.

SETTV taps Rainie Yang and Jerry Yan for Fated to Love You sequel

Source: UDN
Written by: PA @ CpopAccess.com

Nothing is confirmed but the management companies of both actors have been contacted by SETTV. “Fated to Love You” was a massive ratings success for the network back in 2008. They hope to recreate the same magic again with its sequel “醉後決定愛上你 (Drunken to Love You)” next year. As you might have heard already, SETTV has been in a slump (idol drama-wise) for most of this year ever since “Autumn’s Concerto” went off the air.

“Fated to Love You” director Chen Ming Zhang worked on many of the network’s biggest hits including “The Prince Who Turns into a Frog” and “My Lucky Star”. He moved on to direct more hit dramas for the mainland network HunanTV, but is now in hot water after the explosion accident on the set of his latest, “My Date with Spring”. Chen returned to Taiwan after the production team was disassembled. However, he has yet to answer any questions concerning the accident other than updating his blog. SETTV had wanted him to direct the sequel to "Fated" all along, but he originally turned it down due to scheduling conflicts. Now that “Spring” is on hold, he is rumored to be returning to SETTV to direct Drunken to Love You.

Many are awaiting Rainie Yang’s next drama after her big win at the Golden Bell last month. Her manager confirmed they have indeed received an offer but have yet to discuss any details. Jerry Yan’s manager said they are only in the early stages of contact. They haven't decided on whether they will accept the role.

Meeting The Three Domyoujis

source:
http://www.asianewsnet.net/home/news.php?id=15362&sec=40

In a small room in a resort in Gwang-ju, South Korea, four years ago, five young men strode in wearing identical white suits. But one of them stood out, he with the wavy hair: Domyouji Tsukasa. Or rather, he was Matsumoto Jun of the Japanese idol group Arashi.

Matsumoto played Domyouji in the Japanese drama Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) and its sequel as well as in the movie version. That time in 2006, he was in between the two dramas and his hair was far from permed, but he still exuded that Domyouji aura: imposing, over-confident and stand-offish. It made me wonder if he was going to display the infamous Domyouji temper too.

That is how much Matsumoto owned the Domyouji role that many consider him as the best among the three actors who have played the character on TV.

Domyouji Tsukasa is perhaps one of the most iconic and unforgettable manga characters. The young man with a childlike personality that was often thought of as unreasonable, a thick mop of curly hair that made him look ridiculous, he was stupid... and rich. But he was also hilarious without meaning to and had his charming ways, especially when it comes to the woman he loves. This is what endeared him to the female fans of Hana Yori Dango, the Japanese manga that started its own wave in Asian pop culture.

Published from October 1992 to September 2003 in Japan, the manga was adapted into an animé before Taiwan’s star maker, Angie Cai Zhi Ping picked it up to produce an adaptation, Meteor Garden, in 2001. She cast an unknown model, Jerry Yan Cheng Xu as Dao Ming Si or Ah Si, Domyouji’s Taiwanese version.

The series was a surprise hit in Taiwan and took the rest of the region by storm, turning Yan and his co-stars who made up F4—the lead’s equally rich and good-looking friends—into major stars.

It was just a matter of time that Japan would make its own version and so in 2005, Matsumoto came out on TV screens wearing that now famous Domyouji perm. Unlike Yan, Matsumoto was not a virtual unknown when he took the role having been a member of Arashi for six years, but his role in the drama expanded his fan base, as well as that of the group's.

Obviously inspired by the success of the Taiwanese and Japanese dramas, South Korea was not about to be left behind and Boys Before Flowers premiered in 2009 with former model and little-known actor Lee Min-ho taking the lead role as Gu Jun-pyo. Needless to say, the “Domyouji effect” happened with Lee being propelled into A-list stardom overnight.

One of the things that fans would always nitpick was the hair of Domyouji, which was one of the pegs of the character. Many jokes about the character came from the curly hair after all.

Yan did not curl his hair and instead had it held up by bobby pins, but in the middle of the drama, the hair element was totally set aside and promptly forgotten. It must have been mafan (troublesome) to have it set every time considering that Meteor Garden was a low-budget production.

Lee’s hair, on the other hand, looked so overly done and unnatural that many fans criticised it as a bad version of an ajumma (auntie) perm. Many could not help compare it to Matsumoto’s hair,  which was permed for the first season but was styled the same way for the second one.

What’s the big fuss over the hair anyway?

When I met Yan earlier this year in Taipei, it has been nine years since Meteor Garden was shown but he still had that longish hair that was the rave in the region at the height of F4’s fame. Reports say he has been advised that it was best for him to wear his hair long to bring luck to his life. But seriously, the old hairstyle made him look dated.

Yan still considers Ah Si as the closest to his personality among the roles he has played, describing himself as childlike and playful like the famous character. I thought, maybe often misunderstood too, as Domyouji was. There have been reports of Yan being moody and difficult to work with and while spending an hour with him was not enough to give a full picture of who he is, I saw a soft-spoken, even shy man who would insist on his standards and had his own mind. For example, when I requested for a photo with him, his handlers quickly declined saying he was not made up yet. He listened to them quietly and after they have said their piece, asked if I had a camera and gamely posed, not caring whether his hair was sticking out in the wrong direction. I thought this Domyouji had a soft and gentle side to him. Not really unlike the character who had his weaknesses too.

Many, meanwhile, have pointed out to the physical resemblance between Yan and Lee that they could even play brothers. Both are tall too.

Lee’s height, in fact, came as a surprise when I saw him at a recent press conference in Bangkok. Gone was the ugly perm and in place was a boy-next-door hairstyle that made him look, well, generic.

He was good-looking all right, or rather, too pretty. But he did not exude the imposing presence of Matsumoto nor the magnetic aura of Yan. It did not matter, however, to the fans who came to see him as they screamed in delight when he appeared onstage. As Thai fan Nummon, 23, said, he’s the best Domyouji for her because he’s very funny. But observing Lee onstage, “bland” was the only word that came to mind.

A random poll among people I know--including 11-year-old Chloe from the Philippines--who watched all three adaptations of Hana Yori Dango picked Matsumoto as the “best Domyouji” because of his acting. Referring to the actors' acting in the different versions, she found Dao Ming Si "bad" while Gu Jun-pyo was very "egoistic".

Matsumoto, for many fans like Chloe, IS Domyouji. Even Arashi members agree so, except that he ain’t stupid.

But for many, Yan would always have a special place because he was the “first Domyouji” and for most, the one who opened the door to Asian pop culture.

I fell short in asking if Lee would be considered as the “third-rate Domyouji” though, ugly perm notwithstanding.

Oh and I forgot, there’s a fourth Domyouji, made in China.

Translated by shyun_y of asianfanatics.net

Oh…….
=======

(Pic of YG, slapping her hand on her forehead)
“My goodness! Why must it be Him?”
She rushed all the way here for a job interview, shortly after receiving her sister’s phone call.
Never did she expect to see him. The guy who caused her to lose her job earlier, is ironically, offering her a job now.

The pay’s good, the boss’s good-looking. The magic crystal ball seemed to have made her wishes come true, one after another. But can it be someone else rather than this mean, lethal-tongued man?

With piercing stares from her sister, which could even slice through diamonds, she decided her neck’s not as resilient. Thus if she is to bypass this job opportunity, the consequences would be…

She swallowed hard to tell him, as if also trying to convince herself, she is definitely capable for the job!

(Pic of XYP, in grey suit)
“I can definitely hire you! Although I think you are very blur!” He moved up-close to tell Her.
Being up-close to scrutinise her, her childlike face suddenly gave him an impulse to pinch her.
Reading through her resume, she seemed to have been through all the tough jobs. Her stamina and physique should be able to handle those two little rascals at home. In addition, his secretary added that this girl prefers girls only. This is very fine with him too, at least, he does not need to worry about someone giving him a birthday party at home each day.

“$150,000 monthly. No annual leave and you have to be on-call every moment!”

Very enticing terms, or perhaps it was the one who was speaking that was “enticing”. “BUT if you breach any terms within the first year, you would have to compensate me 10 times the contractual amount!”

After he said that, he felt a sigh of relief. But he still could not explain the urge why he felt so strongly to pinch her cheeks?

================
Resolution’s made…
================

(Pic of YG & XYP beside each other)
“I must never fall for him!”
Faced with such a handsome boss, any girls would find it hard to resist his charms. Of course, she is no exception too.

Thus, even if they are less than 30 centimetres apart, her pulse rate would be in synch with his breathing. His breathe has grown to be the rhythm and motivation of her heart beats.

But if there is any breach of contract, there would be the penalty of 10 times the contractual amount. It might be negligible to lose her job, but the compensation of the penalty is a big issue. If she lose this job and needs to pay the penalty, she would never see and hear the last from her sister.
Furthermore in his eyes, she is supposed to be a lesbian who prefers girls. Gradually, she has accepted that she is a girl lacking in femininity, thus, how could she ever fall in love with him?
“I had better just do my job properly!” She made a resolution.

================
A Multi-Tasker…
================

(Pic of YG & the children. YG’s thoughts: Being a nanny is really exciting…)
Her job as a nanny is really exciting.
She has to fetch the kids to and fro school everyday and carry all the big and small bags.

(Pic of YG drying YT’s hair)
She has to bathe the children after playing with them.

(Pic of YG keeping the messy toys)
When the children have fallen asleep, she has to tidy the messy house, with items strewn all around.

(Pic of YG fixing stuff)
Sometimes, she would even need to repair of spoilt furniture and equipment.

(Pic YG at meal with XYP)
Occasionally, she would whip up a feast for the guy who was used to “microwave food”.

================
Photosynthesis…
================

(Pic of XYP at breakfast)
He enjoys the breakfast she prepares for him every bright morning. The days with her around always fill his heart with Warmth, as if his heart is open to the sun like photosynthesis.

================
The Urge…
================

(YG & XYP at grass field)
When the afternoon sun is shining bright, they would go to the nearby park to chat.
He likes watching the profile of her face, to admire the innocence and pureness of her smiling face.
He could always forget about the hardships of guarding the love which could not be told.

She feels that he is not as unfeeling and aloof as she imagined.
He would invite her to supper, and accompany her to play with the children;
Most importantly, she discovers that he is always willing to listen.
By his side, she always feels an unimaginable sense of carefree-ness.
By her side, he always feels ease at heart and a sense of stability.

He would still feel like pinching her cheeks. She would still feel like staying by him.
Both of them, feel an urge, to just “always stick with each other”…

My defence, because of your proximity…
Has totally disintegrated…

My fear, because of your hug…
Has slowly dissipated…

Can Time come to a standstill…
Just for me to hold onto you tightly…
To always stay by your side…

DWL Photo Gallery Story Part 2
http://blog.yam.com/Downwithlove/article/26374301

1.

The distance is further and further apart.
This is his desk.  On his desk, there is a photo of him with her.
The happiest time was when they were still students.  He studied law when she aimed her goal joining the show business.
Constitutional Law #1 is "He loves her".  Constitutional Law #2 and #3...also are "He loves her".
Then he became a famous lawyer and she a popular artiste.
She concerns about her image.  Their love quietly turned underground.
Their distance has become further and further apart.  The two smiling faces in the picture have become one piece of evidence for reference only.

2.

He said that he loved her personality of being independent and natural.
She handmade a sweater for him.  Afterall, she doesn't have much money.  All she has is her warmth and also her heart.
To her magic crystal ball, she made a wish for him to really treasure her.
However, as time goes by, the blue green color on the sweater hasn't diminished much, but his heart has changed quite a bit.
She hasn't noticed, until that message on the answering machine.  It's an unknown woman's voice, with a flirtatious invitation.
May be...the magic crystal ball didn't hear her wish.

3.

This is the first time he wants to run away from this relationship,
as through the love hidden underground, he can't breathe.

This is the first time she feels depressed.  She doubts whether it is she who is not good enough, not feminine enough.

4.

It's that simple.
All she wants is the magic crystal ball to give her a simple love relationship.  There is no need for extravagance.  Only two people walk side by side happily.  Eating ice-cream with big bites, she will wipe clean the ice-cream left at the corner of his mouth with her hand...

The love he wants is only as simple as being able to walk holding hands in the street.  If it is windy, he will thoughtfully fix her long, windy hair a little bit...

For the kind of lovers who can't be revealed publicly and who don't know how to treasure,
they can only be labelled as "Strangers".

He hopes that there is a smile which can melt his coldheartedness.
And she hopes to meet a person who likes her smile wholeheartedly.

Same time slot, different dimensions.  Both have a desire for complement.
Life...continue...both persons' stories...getting closer and closer

6.

"Happy Birthday!"  She wished him happy birthday holding a cake with a short skirt.
This is not the love he wants.  She is the No. 16 nanny he hired for his niece and nephew.
What a trick with motive!

He doesn't understand why all the nannies he hired can't focus on their work, instead of trying their best to please him.
This makes him uncomfortable.  After all, he has seen too many cases of pleasing each other with all kinds of tricks when being in love, but becoming enemies with bad words against each other after they break up.
Furthermore, today is not his birthday!

May be he should have a drink with his friend, in order to forget all these behaviors by the nannies which leave him speechless.
Then next day, ask the secretary to find a nanny who won't fall for him, and who will take good care of the 2 little ones at home.
After all, a nanny should be someone who helps lessen his burden, but not increase trouble.

First Episode - Down With Love (ABS-CBN)

So, How's the first episode of Down with Love? Let's share all our comments here on my thread below.

Many of you are thinking why the original opening theme was not used? Maybe, because of royalties. I don't know. Hope ABS-CBN or someone who's expert in franchising the series can answer. It would be better if we hear JERRY, SINGING THE OPENIING THEME. Well, am posting the original opening theme used in other countries.

'Down with Love' premieres on Oct. 25 on ABS-CBN

MANILA, Philippines – After the hit series “Meteor Garden” and “Hotshot,” Asian superstar Jerry Yan is back to making every girl fall in love with him all over again in his much-awaited romantic comedy “Down with Love” which will premiere on Monday, October 25 on ABS-CBN.

Yan, playing the role of Elvin, is paired with charming sweetheart from "Hana Kimi," Ella Chen who will play the lesbian-in-disguise Malou.

After the death of his father, Elvin takes the responsibility of taking care of his nephew and niece. Being the top lawyer that he is, he can’t give full attention to them thus, he decides to rely on a nanny.

However, there is a problem as all the nannies hired fall in love with him.

Because of this, Elvin searched for a nanny whose heart won’t beat for him. This is where Malou enters. Desperate to get a job, Malou pretends to be a lesbian so that she will be able to pay the debts her father has left them.

"Down with Love" is touted to offer laughter and romance to viewers as the two main characters discover their true feelings for each other.

Number 1 Homebody {zhai nan} : Jerry Yan ~ Walks out of his place in silly way

极品宅男亮相女性时尚杂志 The Best of Homebody appears in a trendy women’s magazine
宅男独白私房话 He talks candidly about his private life

‘zhai nan’ is a version of the term derived from Japanese “otaku”. It refers to guys who obsessed with manga or computer games of pretty, young girls. Later on, it referred to “people who stay at home, avoid contact with others because of their obsessive hobby of a certain nature.” In Jan 2010, the term has been included in the latest edition of the {English-Chinese Dictionary}.

“China’s zhai nan and zhai nu research report” was carried out in 30 mainland cities. The report indicated that from 2005 to 2007, mainlanders aged 15 to 35 years old were homebodies. The figure was rising annually. In 2007, it peaked at 6.478 million, making up 21% of the similar age group. 80% of them are 29 years old and below, the majority is from single-child families. In every 10 persons, 2 have the potential to be homebodies.

国际著名女性时尚刊物《时尚cosmo》10月号以女性角度优选多位娱乐圈极品宅男,揭开他们神秘的宅生活以及独家宅感言,势必在娱乐圈掀起一场“宅出好男人”的新讨论。
Internationally renowned women’s magazine in its October issue of {Cosmo} has its readers select many of the best of zhai nan in the Entertainment Industry. What their mysterious home lives and exclusive reveal about them. This will definitely start a wave of discussion about “The Good zhai nan”.

宅男1号:言承旭:笨笨地从宅走出去
No. 1 zhai nan : Jerry Yan ~ Walks out of his place in a silly way

In the Entertainment Circle, I’ve always been used my own way doing things even though it may not be an intelligent way of moving ahead. Perhaps many have changed themselves and their perspectives due to fame and are totally different from before. But I’ve always told myself that I must be the same as before. Even though I’ve made money but I don’t want to live in a very big house or get a fast car. I hope that the impression that I give others is that Jerry Yan has matured but he hasn’t changed at all.

In private, I’m kind of ‘autistic’ actually. My wants are very simple. I don’t frequent night spots and like to stay quietly at home doing my own stuff – washing clothes and tidying up. I like my place to be spick and span as it feels very comfortable. If it gets very messy, it feels lethargic. I like to cook things for myself too. Did work in a kitchen before so I can do simple stir-fries.

一个人在家时,我会睡到自然醒。然后去运动——游泳、跑步、打篮球。还有就是看书、碟、电视,听点乐器演奏的音乐,比如钢琴。也会根据不同的心境来选择听什么样的乐器。
When I’m alone at home, I would wake up naturally then I’ll go for exercise – swimming, running and playing basketball. I also read, watch TV, DVDs and listen to instrumental music like the piano. The instrument of choice depends on how my mood was.

Compared to many others, I’m quite different. Up till now, I’m still very much like a boy – very innocent and I believe what the world holds. The biggest difference I think between a man and a boy is that a man is more responsible. He shows more concern and understanding to those around him. This is an area that I’m working on right now. I myself feel that I’m still not yet a man. If I were to put the man and boy in me as a ratio, it would likely be 0.01 to 9.99. But I saw a mainland movie, {The Assembly} recently and I thought the actors were so macho, so great. I really hope that I can try my hand at the character, gu zi. I hope to become Jerry Yan who is more ‘man’, more primeval with a beard, shaven head and no make-up.

有一天,我希望自己拥有一个大牧场,那里一定会有妈妈,还有最后那个陪在我身边的女人。我和她坐在前廊,一起看着夕阳慢慢落下去。
One day, I hope that I can own a huge ranch. My mother will definitely be there and the woman who stayed with me till the very end. I will sit with her at the front porch and watch the sun slowly setting together.

Jerry Yan Took a Half Year Break due to Gastritis Estimated Financial Loss Up to NT$4.7 billions

October 13 2010 Apple Daily, Taipei–
Jerry Yan Took a Half Year Break due to Gastritis Estimated Financial Loss Up to NT$4.7 billions

credits/source

Jerry Yan has been recovering from Gastritis for the past 6months. He had to turn down a lot of deals including 20 TV dramas, 10 movies,15 events, totaling NT$4.7 bi...llions. He is now fully recovered and was seen preparing to get back to work. He was seen going to a hair stylist for a hair job in preparation of a publicity photo-shoot in Japan. He arrived in his 10 year old car and his face covered by lowered baseball cap.

Jerry Yan has endured huge work load since last year. He finished shooting of [Down with Love], made the album [Freedom], and published his memoir [9314 Man and Boy]. His health condition has been hugely impaired by the heavy work schedule. He reduced his work to promotional tours only in the past few months. He also took the time for other activities, such as visiting the children at the Catholic Children and Juvenile Center. Lately he has started to prepare for his future jobs.
In the evening of October 12, Jerry drove his precious old car Cefiro to [Hair Culture], a hair stylist in Northeast Taipei, for a hair cut. He appeared very casual with long hair touching his shoulders. His face was covered by lowered baseball cap but his beard was still noticeable. His agency explained that he was there to get the hair done for his publicity photo-shoot in Japan.

According to research, Jerry has turned down quite a few jobs including idol drama [Material Queen] and 20 other TV dramas each could have earned him NT$17 millions. He has also turned down 10 movie deals priced at NT$50 millions and 15 events for NT$80 millions. The total estimate is about NT$4.7 billions. If he has worked during this time, he could have already earned NT$50 millions. His agency commented that Jerry’s health is the most important consideration and they want to focus on the quality of the work.

During the downtime, Jerry has been taking English andJapanese lessens. He shared his favorite English quote with his fans on Sinablog two days ago: “Find out what makes you feel better inside. No matter whatis going on outside. Wish you all find that happiness inside”. The birth of hisnephew has brought him happiness like a new father although he is not veryexperienced at baby-caring.

Jerry Yan reveals almost sordid past

Pop idol says that he "nearly became a gigolo"

----Jerry Yan

If not for his mum, singer Jerry Yan would probably be a gigolo instead of the pop idol he is today.

"Because I'm good at peeling grape skins, I had the potential to be a gigolo," joked Jerry Yan at the recording of Chinese variety show, Fei Chang Jing Ju Li.

"I nearly went astray when I was young. If not for my mum who brought me back to the right path, there wouldn't be me today. "

Currently in China for promotions of his latest pictorial book, which reportedly took five years to produce, Jerry talked at lengths about his family.

As a child from a single-parent family, the pop star felt that he never knew how to love somebody, and also added that he shared a "sibling-like" relationship with his divorcee mum.

"In certain aspects, I'm more like an older brother (to my mum)," he quipped.

The star also revealed that he felt like he has failed in all his relationships.

"Even if I wanted to, I don't know how to express my love sometimes. I only know how to carry all burdens on my shoulder," he said.

To maintain Jerry's idol image, his surprising revelation will not be aired on television. However, raw clips of the recording have since gone viral.

A Brilliant Shooting star - Jerry Yan the King of Idol Drama

Nine years after crowned as the King of Idol Drama, Jerry Yan now wears a beard that adds maturity and character. He said that the change is for a new production.

It doesn’t matter how many different roles that Jerry Yan has played on screen..., the most memorable is Dao Ming Si of [Meteor Garden] in the eyes of the generations born in the 70s and 80s. “I can’t forget the first time we met, your beautiful eyes…” (Theme song in [Meteor Garden])

If it were not for Angie Chai, the producer of [Meteor Garden], Jerry Yan would not have been discovered, at least would not have risen to the fame the way he did over night. Chai was casting for the idol drama [Meteor Garden] based on the popular Japanese comic strip and was in search of 4 young leading men who are handsome and tall, with body height of 1.8 meters, among Taiwanese actors. Angie Chai: “We had to ask for help from friends and casting agencies. The four of them were selected among more than 200 candidates.” Yang Ying, a radio hostess, “Like many things, the first version is easily the best since it sets expectations that are usually hard to meet by the followers. Jerry Yan’s look, personality and performance were the closest to the character among all.”

[Meteor Garden] set the trend of idol drama in Taiwan. Not only it established idol drama as a recognized industry, but also finished the era of Japanese drama which has dominated TV screens in Taiwan for decades. For the first time, the super idols were made in Taiwan.

Jerry Yan said humbly: “The role of Dao Ming Si was great. Like I mentioned in the interviews, I believe that I could have done a better job than portraying myself. My personality is very close to the character. I guess that’s also why people remembered the character so well.” Jerry Yan’s successful portrait of the character is regarded the best by his fans comparing to those played the different versions of the same role. “Let me carry the weight of your dream...”(Jerry Yan singing the theme song with F4). The boy band with Jerry Yan and three others, Vic Chou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu, was named F4. They dominated the stage wherever they appeared. Jerry Yan who came from a humble background was crowned the King of the Idol Drama.

Ups and Downs but still on the Frontline, One would expect Jerry Yan to keep the momentum of his huge success in [Meteor Garden] and take on large number of jobs. However Jerry Yan only starred in two idol dramas, [Come to My House] and [Meteor Garden2], and one movie [Magic Kitchen]. Jerry Yan also had conflict with Angie Chai due to the impossible shooting schedules and the tremendous workload of [Meteor Garden2]. He had only a few record deals afterwards and his career seemed to be in trouble. Jerry Yan seemed have disappeared from the public eyes. In reality Jerry was taking acting classes to improve his skills and waiting for a good opportunity.

Finally all efforts were paid off. In 2004 a perfect opportunity came knocking on his door and he was cast to play the leading role, Dr. Su Yihua of [The Hospital]. Although the job put a lot of stress on Jerry, he pulled it through. Jerry Yan: “It was such an important role for me. If you have watched the drama, you could see that I had the opportunity to work with some great actors, such as Leon Dai. With their interactions I exceeded my own expectations. It was such a great experience.” After [The Hospital], Jerry Yan seemed to have unlocked the secret of acting. He made more successful idol dramas, [Hot Shot], [Starlit] and the new [Down with Love].

Although Jerry doesn’t have a long list of credit, fans worldwide loved every drama he made. This also caused the curiosity of how Jerry managed to top the competitive entertainment business with just the right amount of exposure. Jerry Yan: “Certain things will disappear with time. I believe that continuous improvement of my acting skills is the best way to stay competitive. I would like to show that I am a good actor even if I don’t make a lot of idol dramas. I’m still a boy at heartJerry Yan who is shy in the limelight did not have a happy childhood. He lost his father at 12 and survived the childhood with his older sister and his mom. His mom worked as a Seamstress to raise Jerry and his sister. Jerry has been a very good son to his mom by working to support the family at a very young age. His dream is to become someone his mom can be proud of. It was reported recently that he was born out of wedlock. The hardship during his early years has made him to believe that he needed to work very hard to earn his success. Although his net worth is in the billions today, he still remembers his poor days and lives a very simple life. He still drives a 10 year old car that breaks down all the time. He doesn’t believe in materialism and living a high life. Jerry Yan: “I could have never dreamed what I have now. I am a very lucky person.”

As a leader of the new generation of actors in Taiwan, Jerry Yan naturally received harsher criticism while shouldering higher expectations. Some even think that his success is because of his look. Media often reads his shyness as arrogant and cold. Media has not been as critical to the others in F4. Jerry Yan: “I’ve learned a lot in the entertainment circle. I’ve grown up. But I’m still a little boy at heart.”

The Love Story of the Prince and the Princess As the other in F4, Jerry Yan has been reported to have a few relationships. The most popular gossip focused on Chiling Lin and Terri Kwan. Jerry Yan: “I need someone who can understand and discipline me. I like someone who is mature.” Based on Jerry’s criteria, Chiling Lin seemed to be a good fit. She is pretty and smart with good people skills. In his new book [9314 Man and Boy], Jerry recorded the love story of “the Prince and the Princess” which unfortunately ended. He admitted that this is the love of his life. With the help of the intimate cell phone photos of the two circulating on the internet after the cell phone maintenance, it is believed that the gossip was true. Jacky Wu at the 2006 Asia Pacific Film Festival: “What is this (the handshake)? Let’s have a proper greeting (a hug), ok?” Chiling Lin: “I’m very happy to see him and his success. I’m deeply honored.” Jacky Wu: “You made it sounded like you two were not very close to each other?!” At an interview Chiling Lin cried watching a video clip of Jerry. Jerry: “If I had a girl friend, I’d definitely bring her to see my mom.” Interviewer had to offer tissue to Chiling to dry her tears. Jerry Yan: “I think that I was not romantic or considerate enough for the girls I’ve dated. I wish them all good luck and happiness.”

Jerry met Terri Kwan when shooting [Starlit] in 2008. Their interaction in the drama looked very real. It was then reported that they toured Thailand together. (However both denied the rumor.) Terri Kwan and Jerry Yan in [Starlit]: “My life is timed and it’s impossible to be together with you!” “What do you want me to do?! I can’t pretend that I don’t love you!” Be it gossips or news of his new projects, Jerry Yan’s life has always been the focus of the media. However in private, Jerry Yan is a big boy who is shy but extremely serious about his acting career.

=============================
TW Apple Daily

It was reported that a lot of good things have happened to Jerry lately.  Not only the gastritis, which had bothered him a lot, has improved a lot after treatment, he became an uncle, as his sister gave birth to a son, who is the first member of the family's third generation.  Although he is always very protective of his privacy, yesterday he posted his nephew's picture on the official website to share his happiness, which's also the first time he has allowed his family member to be shown in public.  The birth of his nephew made him want to be a dad as well.

Yesterday, he shared the happy news on his offiical website (http://www.jerryyan.info)and called himself Little Uncle Sun.  His health showed the red flag a while ago, but yesterday he wrote, "I am doing very good lately, as I am an uncle now.  Although the whole family is still in a chaotic situation, our family is filled with joy because of the joining of this life.  New topics come up everyday.  Actually, taking care of a baby is so difficult but interesting!  So, everyone should be filial to one's mom!"

Mother and Sister Have Never Been Introduced To The Puclic
Allow Family Member To Be Shown To The Public For The First Time

His little nephew was just born less than a month.  Yan Cheng Xu, who likes to play basketball, has started to wish that he will grow up quicker, so he can bring him along to play basketball.  He also wrote, "Really want to bring him to play basketball faster, but my sister called me crazy... Little Uncle really want to bring you out for fun and to see this beautiful world"  When he filmed DWL seeing Xiao Xiao Bian, he has wanted to have a kid.  Now with the birth of his nephew, will this further deepen his thought of having a kid?  Yesterday, through his agent, he answered, "Sure it will!"

He has never allowed his mom and sister to be shown to the public.  Even when he got on A Date with Lu Yu, he only allowed his mom's voice to be exposed.  At the site, a recording of his mom's message was played, asking him to take good care of his health and his being healthy is the best gift for her.  After he heard it, his eyes were filled with tears right away.  This time, he rarely showed his nephew's picture with the public for sharing his happiness.

Taiwan heartthrob Jerry Yan thinking about fatherhood

TAIPEI: Taiwan singer-actor Jerry Yan has become an uncle following the birth of his sister's son and revealed that he is thinking about fatherhood, reported Chinese media.

In a rare move by the fiercely private actor, Yan posted photos of his month-old infant nephew on his micro blogging account and gushed about becoming an uncle.

"Although it is really chaotic at home, but due to the addition of this little life, it has become filled with joy and laughter.

"It turns out taking care of a child is fun yet difficult, so everyone should be filial to their mothers!" said Yan in a post on Tuesday.

The former F4 member, who had only recently recovered from a bout of gastritis, was apparently overjoyed to have a nephew.

He wrote in another post on the same day about how he wanted to show his nephew "this beautiful world" before greeting his fans and calling himself "Uncle Sunshine".

When asked if he is thinking about fatherhood after being so enamoured with his nephew and his little co-stars in the drama "Down with Love", the 33-year-old star replied through his manager: "Yes!".

Jerry Yan down with gastritis

Medical check-ups reveal that pop idol's illness is caused by stress

Jerry Yan is feeling under the weather these days.

According to reports, the Taiwanese singer-actor has not been in the best of health lately, often looking pale and haggard during public appearances.

The 33-year-old star was also said to be in weak health and being prone to recurring colds.

Speculations were rife that Jerry Yan could possibly be suffering from a strange illness, which had caused the 1.8m lanky hunk to suffer a weight lost.

Despite pleas from concerned fans, Jerry reportedly refused to undergo any forms of intrusive health check-ups, and only relented after much persuasion from his close doctor friend, Hou Wenyong.

"I arranged for it (the check-up). He is already a grown man and should do a full body examination once every year," said Hou.

He added that Jerry's illness was mostly due to pressure from work, and would develop into stomach ulcers if aggravated.

Jerry Yan has since started treatment for his condition.

【Love Health】 Issue No. 60 - Jerry Yan Transformation After 10 Years ~ Boy Becomes Man

The decade was not extremely long but it marked a special era. He was Dao Ming Si in [Meteor Garden]. He was the soul of F4, the super idol group from Tai...wan that took over Asia. He is unique and unprecedented in Chinese pop culture history. A over night sensation, Jerry Yan was thrown to the media fire that came with his fame at age of 24. Struggling to cope with the new life, he was cruelly labeled as rebellious and difficult. He had crowd phobia and withdrew himself from the outside world out of the fear of malicious tabloid media.

Today that handsome young man with long wavy hair, the heart-throb of millions of girls, has transformed from a boy to a man after 10 years. He is ready to take on a more matured role and leave his naive image behind.

When I saw him again at the press release of his memoir [9314 Man & Boy], Jerry Yan was a changed man. After working in Japan for five years he finally returned to Beijing again. To the contrary of my expectation of a shy and quiet person, Jerry Yan has completed changed to someone who talked freely about himself. His message? I am no longer a boy, I am a man.

[Meteor Garden] 2001 has created a pop culture miracle. Jerry Yan leaped to fame over night from a nobody. His overwhelmingly large fans base includes people like Japanese politicians, President Arroyo of Philippians, and Indonesian Princess. He received an award on the same stage with the First Lady of Japan. Singapore media titled him as one of the 10 most popular persons of the decade. He is a subject in the wax museums in Shanghai and Thailand.

Unfortunately the fate that brought him the fame has also brought him bad publicity. It was so bad that he was suffering from crowd phobia. He admitted that he has learned a lot from his own mistakes and overcome the phobia. Today what he wants the most is to show to people that he has transformed from a boy to a man. He is ready for a new start.
